To DIY or DDIY…that is the question!

The do-it-yourself industry has exploded in recent years. DIY, as it is better known, even has its own networks on TV and is all over the internet. It gives us the tools and confidence to do our own projects while saving money along the way. While DIY is great in many situations, there are some instances where it is better left to the professionals. Below we have listed important projects that aren’t DIY, they are DDIY (don’t-do-it-yourself)

Plumbing

We’re not telling you to call a plumber whenever there is a leaky faucet or flapper problem on your toilet. However, if your project is going to need more than a few simple tools, it’s best you call your local plumber. It will save you time, cost, and many headaches.

Electrical

Go ahead and switch out that dead lightbulb. But beyond this, go get a licensed professional to get any electrical work done. We shouldn’t need to explain why this is so important. But just in case you don’t know, wiring in your homes can be complex and deadly if proper steps aren’t taken. No matter the situation, if ever in doubt, call an electrician!

Carpet cleaning

This one seems easy, but it might be one of the most important DDIY’s out there. The part of your home that gets the least amount of attention is oftentimes your carpet. Entryways, living rooms, and more areas collect dirt and as a result, become dull and worn down. Besides looking bad, this creates a terrible environment in your home. Carpets and rugs trap allergens and bacteria just like filters. If they aren’t cleaned regularly and professionally, their life expectancy goes and down and so does your indoor air quality!

We strongly suggest avoiding steam cleaners or renting your own carpet cleaning equipment. Here’s why.

Steam cleaners are notorious for using hot water, soap, and detergents to saturate your carpets and make them appear clean. However, this over-saturation leaves your carpets damp for multiple days and creates a breeding ground for mold, mildew, and bacteria. Steam cleaners, by design, use hot water filled with soap and detergents to saturate your carpets and give the appearance of a surface clean. The over-saturation of carpets leaves them wet for up to 1-2 days. The leftover residue from the soap will attract dirt like a magnet. Consequently, your carpets will end up getting dirty much faster than before!

Professional carpet cleaning from Chem-Dry is the best way to guarantee that your carpets are clean and healthy for your family. Chem-Dry’s carpet cleaning technicians use a proprietary Hot Carbonating Extraction (HCE) cleaning process that provides a deeper, longer lasting clean for a healthier home.

Chem-Dry’s revolutionary process means a few things:

  • Drier carpets. The HCE method requires 80% less water than usual steam cleaners. With us, carpet dries in hours, not days.
  • Cleaner carpets. HCE uses carbonation power to thoroughly penetrate the base of your carpets and lift dirt and grime. Afterward, there are virtually zero dirt-attracting residues left behind.
  • A healthier home. HCE is green-certified and safe. An independent lab studied Chem-Dry’s unique HCE process and discovered that it removed 98% of allergens from carpets and upholstery. With a sanitizer added, the HCE process removed 89% of airborne bacteria! Learn more about the Home Health Study.

We understand that sometimes DIY may be your best option in certain situations. Just remember, if the project could hurt the value of your home, cause damage or require a pro to clean up the mess…think twice and don’t be afraid to DDIY!
