It’s That Time of the Year… Again

Winter is Calgary. What do you think of when you hear that? It could be the snow, more time spent indoors snuggling up to a nice fire, or the coughs and sneezes that are so common during this time of the year. Winter everywhere is typically called the cold and flu season after all. Obviously, these viruses can ruin how we feel about the winter. That’s why we put together some tips to help you avoid getting sick this year and enjoy winter to the fullest extent possible.

Consult a Physician About a Flu Shot

We know that this can be viewed as controversial, but it can actually help. Do as much research as possible to find out if a flu shot is right for you. They are available in most places around Calgary so you shouldn’t have a problem finding one.

Consistently Wash Your Hands

Washing your hands is important during any time of the year, but especially during cold and flu season. Germs and viruses can be passed around hand to hand faster than you can believe. Remember to use soap and scrub for a minimum of 20 seconds. Scrub like you mean it! Reach all the areas you usually forget about. This includes between your fingers, the back of your hands, and under the fingernails. Wash your hands multiple times during the day and any time you feel like you might have been exposed to something.

Exercise Regularly

Exercising will maintain optimal body operation! It will keep your immune system solid. A healthy body also equals a healthy mind. Staying in good shape will allow you to recover from cold and flu symptoms faster and keep you feeling good all year long.

WASH YOUR HANDS!

By now you should realize how important this one is. Washing your hands is the best method of defense. You can’t control everyone else’s actions but you can control yours. Don’t forget this!

Keep Your Home Clean

A great way to stay healthy during the long winter months is to just keep your house clean. We aren’t talking about doing some weekly chores here either although those are important too. What we really mean is deep cleaning things like your carpet and upholstery where dust and allergens thrive.

For deeper, longer-lasting cleaning, consider using a professional carpet cleaning service like Chem-Dry before flu season begins and afterward too. Chem-Dry’s Hot Carbonating Extraction process has been proven to remove 98.1% of non-living allergens. That means our service will remove those hidden dust, dirt, and allergens in your carpets to keep your home fresh and healthy all winter long.

We hope these tips will help keep you and your family safe and healthy this cold & flu season.
